Leadership & Effective Team Assessment

The rise of the global economy is rapidly changing the way business is conducted. Organizations that hope to prosper need special leaders, Leaders that are more than just accomplished administrators and managers. They need leaders who have some charisma and possess the ability to inspire followers to subrogate their own interests for the good of the entire organization.

As we find educated leaders emerging in organizations, we are beginning to see a blend of experience and incorporation of rigorous academic research at the organizational level. When this phenomenon is coupled with application of open systems philosophy in the form of creating learning organizations and embracing creation of a learning organization, we find our ability to evaluate organizational change enhanced. Organizational models are becoming flatter by application of technology as well as by application of social tools aimed at creating a more intelligent and effective work force capable of sharing information internally and acting on that information in a dynamic operating environment. The interest part of this emerging paradigm, or model, is that unlike models of the past, it is not static but appears to morph to take advantage of change in the operating environment.

The journey now is to evaluate leadership and their effectiveness on teams. An analysis would need to be done on the operating environment to determine whether the organizational model is static or dynamic and attempt to assess its effectiveness in a rapidly changing operating environment. Is it a challenge? Certainly! The benefits could be marginal, but the knowledge thus obtained will at least place businesses in a more knowledgeable position for the next decision making step.

360-Degree Assessment Approach
The 360-degree assessment is an evaluation tool that uses feedback from several sources such as supervisors, peers, and subordinates to provide feedback to an individual related to job performance. This process has successfully been used to assess senior level executives and enhance their ability and progress towards results based management. It has also been used successfully by many large organizations within the United States as the primary performance assessment tool for motivation, performance evaluations and compensation.
